Cold Weather Shelter
EWUMC participates with about 20 other churches and faith congregations to form the Whittier Area Interfaith Council. This organization was founded many years ago to address the needs of Whittier’s homeless and marginalized persons. One of the ways we seek to give aid and shelter is through the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months. The shelter rotates around the different churches, offering a warm, safe shelter overnight and two hot meals. Our guests are prescreened for drugs and alcohol. Each church provides overnight supervision and people to prepare and serve the meals. We are available to pray with our guests and refer them to other sources of help. Since we have a Preschool on our campus, the guests are required to leave early in the morning and can return at dinnertime later in the day.
